Biography.
Slinkachu is a London based street art photographer. He was born in 1979, making him around 34 years old. Along with being a photographer he also is a blogger. He uses everyday objects and figurines to create a setting in which he is going to photograph. You could also describe him as a miniaturist. His 3 most known projects of photography are; Inner City Snail (which is where he used non-toxic paint to graffiti on living snails, and then photographed them), The little people project (which is the style I chose to use for my pictures, its where he uses everyday objects, sets a scene with some figurines to go with it, photographs it and just walks off and leaves it there and Little People In The City (which is the same as the little people project, just set in the city). Slinkachu has a unique style of photography, up until him I have never seen anything like it. If you are choosing GCSE photography as an option or choosing photography as a career I would highly recommend looking at some of Slinkachu's work as inspiration.
My personal Opinion.
The things I like about Slinkachu's work is that its different, unique, not been done before. It is all original and Slinkachu's own idea. However the thing I dislike, is the time, effort and money he puts into setting the projects up to leave them on the street. It must cost him a fortune, although his hard work doesn't go to waste as he has been recognized through his 'little people project'
His pictures.
These pictures are some of the pictures he has taken in his 'little people project'. As you can see he sets up a little scene out of figures, and uses everyday objects to create a story. The theme of this unit I personally think is irony.

Out of all of the pictures I have viewed, the one below has to be my favourite. This is my favorite one because I find the whole idea really creative. Taking an everyday object and turning it into something it isn't. The picture has a small depth of field, and the focus points are the men and the lego block, I know this because everywhere on the picture is not in focus, apart from the two men and lego block. I admire how Slinkachu has got the exposure just right, therefore the picture has the perfect amount of light making it not too bright, and not too dark.
My project.
When researching Slinkachu's work it took thorough research, because I didn't want to copy a picture Slinkachu had already done. I was just looking for some guidance on how to take my own Slinkachu style pictures. My first attempts weren't to horrible, however I preferred my final shots.

As you can see my first attempts (above) were far from perfect, but getting feedback on them helped me improve them, as I found out they weren't as inventive as I was capable of.
After receiving feedback and criticism, I think my final pictures came out a lot better than my original ones. I was really happy with my Slinkachu project.
The reason my final shots were much better than my first attempts were, because of feedback, criticism and lots of research on how to improve my own work. If you look at the difference (below) at one of my first pictures, and one of my final shots you can see the difference in them. When taking my first pictures, I didn't really use focus points, or change the aperture I just took pictures of the 'little people' with and without flash. However as you can see on my final pictures I had a go at changing the settings such as; the F/stop and the white balance to see what difference it made to my pictures. Overall the differences are clear to see in my final photos.
The above picture was one of my first attempts at Slinkachu. Although it was not very imaginative I did try and experiment with the Depth of Field in the picture. The focus point is mainly in the middle where the couple are sat in front of the pencil, and the rest of the picture is out of focus. However this is hard to tell in this picture, because the white balance is incorrect making the picture seem slightly orange. The white balance was set as 'cloudy outdoor' in the above picture which was incorrect. I fixed this ready for my final images.
This picture was taken after I had developed my understanding of the camera further. I changed the white balance to 'tungsten indoor' which was the correct setting before taking this picture. The next thing I did was set my focus points; they are set on the boy and the first two letters on the cup (F and R). The lighting in this picture is also correct. All of these things add up to make one good picture. For example, when a picture has focus points, but doesn't have the correct lighting and/or white balance setting; this can make the focus points on the picture harder to spot. Also, if you have focus points along with the correct lighting, but the wrong white balance setting; this can make the image look orange (for example my first attempt pictures). However, when a picture has focus points along with the correct lighting and the correct white balance setting the entire picture turns out a good photograph which is what has happened above.
